As a young woman, St. Clare made the bold choice to go against her family’s wishes to follow St. Francis of Assisi. After meeting St. Francis, she had decided to follow in his footsteps and devote her life fully to Christ.
St. Clare’s choice was not popular with her family, and they even tried to force her to come back home. Still, she stayed where she knew God wanted her to be.
While some obviously associate our choice of Assisi Media with St. Francis, the choice included St. Clare of Assisi, as well. As a husband and wife team, it only felt right to have both a patron and patroness of Assisi as models to follow.
A popular story about St. Clare tells of a time when she could not attend Mass because of illness. While laying in bed sick, she had a vision of the Mass on her bedroom wall. For that reason, she was named the Patron Saint of Television.
We chose St. Francis as our patron saint because of his work to rebuild the Church (something we believe needs to be done today). We chose St. Clare as someone who represents our work on various screens – from eBooks to websites to video. She fully represents our embrace of new technologies.
Our first endeavor was publishing our first book, which has already seen some success in its eBook electronic form. Someday soon, with the help of St. Clare, we hope to take on new adventures.
On the Feast of St. Clare of Assisi, we want to ask for her intercession and prayers as we continue along this journey of taking Christ’s message out into the world.
